Consumerism
by
Chris Seay
There is a counterfeit story that culture is telling us: when we get what we want, we will be happy. How can we get beyond faux happiness and realize authentic joy in pursuing a Kingdom oriented way of life? Consider how a deeper understanding of the Gospel could reshape your decision-making in a consumer-driven society.

Thanks Chris.
It's interesting to me that there aren't more "likes" or "shared" or comments about this...

Excellent summary on this important topic. Thanks Chris.

Great stuff!! What is the name of the book that you read out of in this clip about the Sims?

Consumerism doesn't just affect those of us who have the means to buy. I remember fantasizing about toys and gadgets as a child. Really it was a form of idolatry, constantly wanting the next useless thing all the while not appreciating the wealth of things I had right in front of me.
This year I'm celebrating Christmas by sending toys to kids in Haiti. I really feel that Christmas should have nothing to do with consumerism or materialism but that may be too far of a stretch for now.
great talk,

I have been in a bit of a wilderness the last few years as I have pursued some of the issues that this site is talking about. There was what appeared to be a vaccuum in the immediate circle of Christians with whom I am involved even including the leadership of the local church of which I have been a member for over three and a half decades. It also seems to be cracking open the last couple of months. I hope for the understanding of the Isaiah 58 and the justice of Micah 6:8 to be realized in my sphere. I am so glad to have been led to this "Q" site.

Part of a class I am taking involves this particular subject and I am researching for information to use in an upcoming report. Your post is really helpful; do you have any others on this topic?

Another great example of innovation, I am glad to find it. There are so many developers working on this segment but this is one of the best innovative idea ever. Thanks for sharing it here.
